Some of you eagle-eyed web-peeps have noticed that my pictures of my plants and hummingbirds lately have trees in them that, uhm, don’t look like Texas.
I am so thrilled for you and your family! But, the Baylor alum in me is sad! But what a wonderful opportunity to be close to your family - 2020 really brought things into sharp focus - so happy for y'all. (And more than a little jealous of a safe school!)
This post is joyous~ and in so many ways, I relate to the journey! We pastored for 30+years in Chapel Hill, lived in Durham where we raised 6 kids! All went to UNC-Ch HIll :) but the boys remained stalwart Duke B-Ball fans!!
We left that longtime church, sold the too-big house, moved to NW Cary, and then the pandemic! 2018- now was quite difficult and engaging deeply in a new church home has been tough.
We still do online though vaxxed... we have 2 grandkids too young for the vaccination so stay vigilant in all the ways.
Welcome to NC~ I have spent many miles walking in Durham~ around the Duke campus~ Did my 2nd Racewalk there years ago!!
So happy you are near family~ grandparents esp!! Our grands are in Astoria, Queens ~ where we are this weekend! Helping them move to a place they will buy instead of renting!
~ they are both professors in NY~ my daughter at Fordham~
I am happy too that your kids are in good places and you can feel a deep deep breath about their daily environment.
Thank you for ALL you do...ALL your words, wisdom and the grace-filled ways you challenge us all to be better~ to love more~ to hope!
Thank you for your comment and it sounds like a similarish story to ours. Transitions are hard and joyous. Thanks for sharing about your family too! And the comment.
So glad for you and your family. Daddy was a Tarheel from the Coast (near Camp Lejeune) and we have dear family still in the area. Such wonderful answers to prayers--would love to hear the stories sometime. Thanks also for continuing to write in the midst of such a busy crazy time. Blessings!
Congratulations on your return to North Carolina! Duke is lucky to have both you and your husband. The Triangle area should be a refreshing change from Texas. When I first came to live in Raleigh, I almost cried with joy at the beauty of our neighborhood after living in Dallas for twenty years. Although I recently moved back to the Midwest where I grew up, I will always have fond memories of my time in North Carolina.
I did! I tried to not be a stalker-like creeper and found your Baylor office address, I think? But then Amazon emailed that the address had to be corrected, so I was never sure if it made it there. I'm so glad that it did! This was one of the ways I coped through the first 10 months of the pandemic.
I LOVED it! Unfortunately I lost the name on the package so I wasn’t sure who sent it. My goodness it’s so beautiful! Do you mind if I share that with everyone at some point on a post? Thank you again for that. What a joy it was to receive it!
We love NC! I've spent a good bit of time there in Durham at Duke Div. getting some more learnin' over the years. We have family on the coast and a niece that lives 10 minutes from campus. I did a year of CPE at UNC Hospitals and loved Chapel Hill. I suppose this would be considered a mixing of the blues. I really enjoyed my work there. We come through the area now and then and Lisa wanted to go back and take pictures in the chapel this summer and so she twisted my arm (not!) and we had fun. Fuller is a great seminary and a lot my books are by faculty past and present. I am so happy for you to be so close to family. Blessings!
Dr. Knick (is it Dr? I assumed it was but I don't think I've ever asked), how did I miss you are here in NC!! What a small world. One day we should have coffee and discuss all of our books. =)
I never a D.Min. or Ph.D. Almost a D.Min., but decided not to. I focused on the church, family, and being a volunteer EMT with fire/rescue and have been a fire/rescue chaplain, too. And buying books. Lisa and I are in Virginia, but we get to NC fairly often.
Hello - I sent an email this week with a Covid lab test question to your Baylor address from s…g…@okstate.edu. Ironic because I was especially interested in talking with you due to your link to NC. Is it possible to contact you personally?
Hi Susan, I just saw that. Ugh, it went to spam. Unfortunately, I can't respond to individual type questions like this. I wish I could provide general guidance, but I can't as an epidemiologist. Hope you're well!

I'm sure my neighbors think I'm funny when I just stare at the trees. =) Thanks for the comment.
Congratulations and good luck! I live in Tyler , which looks quite a bit like a flatter NC. I’m happy for you ❤️
Thank you!
Texas will miss you!
Can I send you a housewarming gift? I tried to send a gift to you @Baylor, but think I may have missed you.
LESLIE, did you send me a poetry book???

You are welcome to share it in whatever way you'd like. I'm SO SO happy that you got it. That makes my day.
HOW WONDERFUL for you and your family!!!
Thank you!
Wow, what an update! Sad to see you leave us in Texas, but your new digs look amazing! Congrats on your new position!
Thanks, Terry!
Thrilled for your move and all the new things that are going on! I'm late to the news but Congratulations!
How exciting! From a parent/grandparent view I know your parents are excited. I now live just 5 minutes (walk) from my grandsons and it is great!
