Welcome back. Continued anti-mask, anti-vaccine, Christian Nationalist rhetoric from the Christians in my life has just got me in deep despair. I dread Sundays. I’ve really missed your voice but so glad you took a much-deserved breather for yourself.
Thanks for the kind words! It was nice to turn off all of the news, etc about this. I'm sorry you feel in despair! Perhaps a breather would be good to get away from the yuk-noise of anti-mask/vaccine stuff.
I'm interested in this as well. My church has the fortune of almost every unvaccinated person being under the age of 12. We're still streaming, but haven't been requiring masks. I do know it has been an issue for some parents. And despite how highly vaccinated we are, there are a number of people who really don't want to wear masks and advocate against them (though who nonetheless wore them when the elders required it).
I feel for you. Heard from a friend in Texas whose kids are too young to be vaccinated. She may very well be leaving her church now that streaming has stopped and masks are not required.
Can't wait to hear what you've been reading! And to read advice for returning to church - we still haven't made it back yet due to delta, but would like to!
Yay! Welcome back. I'm so glad you took a break to rest, recharge and spend time with your family. I admire your decision to do so. And also can hardly wait for your insight and wisdom.
Glad to see you back. I hope that the break was a very good one for you and your family. I am currently putting together some documents to help churches understand the CDC July 27 guidance. A few are starting to pay attention to the guidance, but so far, not very many. Some have the attitude of "if you're more comfortable wearing a mask, go ahead and wear one." Totally misses the point.
Let’s get ready to ruuuummmmbbbblllleee! :). Grateful for you that you had the break, watched the birds and read the books. Thrilled for us that we now get to have you back to speak the life and state the facts!
Thank you for coming back! We have definitely missed you! It is so hard behind surrounded by so many that are anti-mask, anti-vaccine and still think this is not a big deal. Level red in our county and surrounding area. School is back with no preventive measures in place any longer. And hearing of neighbors and others who are fully vaccinated but now have Clovis and are hospitalized. It’s frightening.
I’m anxious to see you recommendations for ministry at this time. And o want to hear all the good books you read and bird sightings!!
Ugh, I'm so sorry about the red level. That's happening in a lot of places right now quickly. Thanks for the comment and I hope my posts will help navigate these next few weeks.
Thank you for coming back! I am looking for wisdom around my kids returning to school next Tuesday. I did my own homeschool last year because I have autoimmune conditions and because I wanted to protect my children. I’m debating on sending them versus homeschool again and have been trying to sift through what data on delta I can find. It’s tough when kids have been so excited to finally go back.
Thank you for coming back Emily. I have really enjoyed your posts since I found out about them from a friend on Facebook. I am so concerned about this new wave and school starting in Florida. I have a young friend whose daughter has childhood pancreatitis and although she will be wearing a mask when she goes back to school, it is not required for anyone else. Her dad took the year off last year and homeschooled her while her mom worked two jobs. One was full time and one was pretty much full time. Keep in mind, this was while taking care of a chronically ill child who has to go out of state twice a year to see a specialist. Mom's health got so bad that she had to go back to working one job, dad's working again, and the child will have to attend in person school. It's so worrisome!
Thanks for the comment and I'm so sorry about your friend in Florida. Gosh, this is hard when it comes to our children and all of the anti-science rhetoric floating around.
I am trying to hold on to the “the curve will come down” hope too. I actually have an epidemiological question re: that fact.
Do you think that, because delta is surging SO rapidly/so contagious and there is at least a SOMEWHAT decreased pool of easy non vaccinated targets, the peak of delta and the decline will come faster than we saw other peaks and declines? Like a shortened wavelength?
Additionally, isn’t it true that mutations usually trend more towards “more contagious/less deadly” as viruses progress? Why are covids getting more contagious and more deadly? Will this start to change?
So glad you are back! I so missed your awesome posts. Looking forward to hearing from you regarding church guidelines. We tried returning to in person church back in June but felt so vulnerable as parishioners were not following the rules to mask if you are unvaccinated (absolutely no one was masking). I felt church was the most dangerous place to be: being indoors for a prolonged period of time singing in close proximity with probably the most unvaccinated segment of the population. So frustrated that so many Christians are against the vaccine. Jesus answered our heartfelt prayer by giving us the most amazing vaccine with such high efficacy that even covered a variant that He knew was forthcoming. He gave us this incredible lifeline that the poor would walk miles for and the affluent ignore. Breaks my heart. Looking forward to again hearing your words of wisdom as well as you sharing what you have been reading!

I’m looking forward to words of wisdom for church leaders. I’m so tired of trying to prove the reality of Covid-19 to some of my members. Deep sign.
Deep sigh indeed. Thinking of you today! This is exhausting for church leaders. Hang in there.

Can’t thank you enough for coming back! And the immune compromised rejoiced!!!!!
Yay! Thanks for the comment.

Thanks! School and delta is an awful combination. I have a post on that this week coming up.

Thanks for the kind words! It was so nice to get away for a bit. =) But, I'm glad to be back.

Totally misses the point, indeed! Thanks for the comment and well done on trying to help churches navigate this next surge.

Hi Kimberly! YES, you sang the song. =) That made me happy! Thanks for the comment.

I feel ya on the school front! I have a post coming up this week on that (which might be too late for your school start). But, I hope it still helps.
