Thank you for this! Would you address a little bit about whether masks should be worn outside (specifically, circumstances like unvaccinated children on the playground)? Thank you!

Yes! I'm curious about this too.

What about meals? Our school system is saying if we mask in classroom, then our kids are 'safe' to eat meals in multi cohorts unmasked cafeteria situations. Because of layering. I submit that their covid rates will be safer if the kids are only unmasked in the cafeterias but our actual children stand a higher chance of contracting covid in this setting than if they ate only within their classroom cohort (not mixed cohorts) and/or outside or... Would you recommend mixed cohort, large group cafeteria meals even if students are seated 3-6' apart?

I feel silly asking this...but how does the 75% infection reduction for the 80% masked population translate to a 75% reduction in the R-value on a single masked individual? Is that person considered 80% masked in an N=1 sort of situation? I also don't see where in the Nature study they specifically conclude a 75% reduction (or where we would be able to calculate it unless I count the dots). I know I'm missing something somewhere and want to be prepared if I'm challenged for sharing the post. Thank you!

Thanks for putting all this information together. I sent to my pastor. I can only pray he and the board will take heed. I live in an area where ppl think it’s against their religious freedoms to follow masking. It’s ridiculous, selfish and ungodly. We lost 2 expectant moms in our area recently to covid- babies survived but such grief- those sweet babes will never know their precious mothers. I work in an urgent clinic and I am weary of what I have seen the past 18 months let alone the constant exposure from the virus. I try to take every opportunity to educate patients when are in or calling them with their results for covid. There is really no reason we should be in this mess again….such selfishness and misguided beliefs. :’(

Thank you so much for this very timely and relevant info. Many school boards will benefit from this, if they care to listen.

What?! Wow. I'm with you, I don't see you it's ethical or safe for your district to do that. I'm sorry 😢. You're doing the best you can.
